A Reflection from a Mother of Two and the Maker of Twodeers,
Inspired by Donguibogam
Donguibogam, the classic text of Korean medicine, begins its discussion of children from a deliberately cautious distance. Children are not seen as incomplete adults, nor are they treated by the same standards. Their bodies are still forming, and their rhythms are fundamentally different. This perspective, though centuries old, continues to resonate deeply with me today—as both a mother of two and the maker of TwoDeers.
In Donguibogam, this understanding appears repeatedly:
A child’s organs are not yet fully developed, and their vital energy moves easily.
This does not simply describe immaturity. It recognizes that while a child may recover quickly, they are also more easily affected by external intervention. For this reason, Donguibogam consistently warns against strong medicine and forceful, immediate suppression when treating children.
Illness may appear suddenly, but the text cautions:
Do not recklessly use harsh or aggressive remedies.
The goal is not to silence symptoms at all costs, but to first consider whether a child’s body can truly bear the intervention. This principle still guides my thinking whenever I make decisions for children—whether as a parent or as a maker.
At the heart of pediatric care in Donguibogam lies the concept of “調 (regulation)”. To regulate does not mean to eliminate or overpower, but to gently restore balance.
Treatment should begin with harmony.
Children’s conditions are not framed as battles to be won, but as imbalances to be carefully realigned. What is blocked is loosened gradually. What is excessive is eased without extinguishing it. What is insufficient is supported without haste.
Protecting the body’s foundation is central to this approach. Donguibogam repeatedly notes that in children, the spleen and lungs are especially delicate.
The spleen is often insufficient; the lungs are often fragile.
For this reason, the text is explicit:
In treating illness, one must not damage what is fundamentally healthy.
Relieving symptoms while undermining the body’s core is not considered true healing. Such treatment only leaves future problems behind.
Children are also understood to be highly sensitive to stimulation. If a remedy is too strong, too extreme in nature, or too unbalanced, the reaction may precede any benefit. Thus, another guiding principle appears:
Medicine should be gentle and balanced.
A child’s body is not something to be pushed or forced, but something to be guided calmly and respectfully.
Importantly, Donguibogam does not aim for quick resolution in pediatric care. Children possess great resilience, but they are also deeply sensitive to direction and influence. For this reason, the ultimate purpose of treatment is expressed as:
To allow the body to restore its own balance.
The goal is not merely to remove present symptoms, but to help the body learn how to regain equilibrium on its own—over time, with patience, and without unnecessary repetition.
In this sense, caring for children, as described in Donguibogam, is not about fixing forcefully. It is about watching carefully, protecting gently, and allowing balance to return naturally.
These principles have profoundly shaped me—not only as the maker of TwoDeers, but as a mother raising two children. They are not just knowledge from an old book, but a reminder of the attitude required when caring for a child’s health, emotions, and growing intelligence. They have taught me restraint, patience, and the value of waiting.
So I chose not to be strong, but to be careful. Not to push, but to protect. To support a child’s body in finding its own balance.
This philosophy is where Twodeers—and Lollibong—begins.
Our Principles
The Harmony of Nature, The Trust of Science, The Soul of Tradition
At TwoDeers, we return to the same question every time we create a product. Is this choice truly ours, and can we explain it clearly to the very end? To answer that question with consistency, we have established three clear principles. The harmony of nature, the trust of science, and the soul of tradition. These are not slogans. They are the foundational standards behind every decision we make.
The harmony of nature is the first direction we consider. We do not see nature as a simple collection of ingredients. Nature operates through balance. When one element becomes prominent, another moderates it. For this reason, we tend to choose restraint over excess, and reduction over addition. To us, the harmony of nature is not a technique of emphasizing something special, but a standard that knows when to stop before going too far. Sweet, but not overwhelming. Gentle, but not indistinct. We define the harmony of nature as choosing the point closest to that balance.
The trust of science is the standard by which we verify that direction. If nature provides intuition, science provides a language that can be explained. We strive not to rely solely on impressions or experience. We believe we must be able to explain why a particular ingredient is used, why a specific formulation is chosen, and why a certain form is appropriate. Science is not decoration for credibility; it is a tool for validation. That is why we value research, data, and verifiable structures, while deliberately avoiding exaggerated interpretations or definitive claims. The ability to say “we do not know” is, to us, also part of scientific integrity.
The soul of tradition is what anchors our judgment. Tradition is not valuable simply because it is old, but because it has endured through time and remains relevant. We do not repeat tradition as it was. Instead, we ask why certain approaches were sustained for so long, and what structures of thought and balance made them resilient. We then reinterpret those principles in today’s language and environment. What we call the soul of tradition is not a return to the past, but a choice to value sustainable conviction over fleeting trends.
These three principles do not exist independently. The harmony of nature sets the direction, the trust of science provides the rationale, and the soul of tradition keeps us grounded. If even one of these is missing, our decisions become unstable. Therefore, no matter how appealing a choice may seem, we do not proceed unless all three principles are satisfied. These standards do not promise perfection. They ensure, however, that every decision we make can be clearly explained.
We aim to make choices that we would not be ashamed to explain to children, to parents, and ultimately to ourselves. When we look back in the future, we hope to say, “There was a clear reason for that decision.” These principles will continue to evolve and be refined over time. But the direction will remain unchanged. The harmony of nature, the trust of science, and the soul of tradition are what shaped TwoDeers, and they will continue to guide every choice we make.
Twodeers Log
Twodeers Log
Twodeers Log
Recording the Brand’s Story and History Together
Twodeers Log is not a blog created for promotional purposes. It is an archive designed to transparently document how the brand is built, and to move steadily alongside the history that naturally forms over time.
We believe that a brand is not completed all at once. It is shaped through repeated decisions—one product, one sentence, one choice at a time. The standards a brand chooses to uphold become visible through these decisions, and over time, their accumulation forms the brand’s history. Twodeers Log exists to record this ongoing sequence of choices.
Rather than crafting emotional narratives, we focus on documenting why certain directions were chosen, why specific expressions were deliberately avoided, and why slower, more careful approaches were often preferred. For Twodeers, a brand story is not a tale to be told, but a record shaped by standards and judgment over time.
These records do not offer final conclusions or definitive declarations. We believe that a brand’s history is always in progress. However, one principle remains consistent: our decisions are made with children as the primary standard, and that standard is not easily compromised.
At Twodeers Log, we refrain from exaggerated language or absolute promises. We clearly distinguish between what we know, what we are still learning, what can be responsibly explained, and where caution is required. We consider the act of recording decisions to be a form of responsibility in itself.
The records accumulated here are not intended solely as internal notes. Over time, they are meant to serve as a coherent reference for partners, collaborators, and readers seeking to understand the brand. By choosing process over immediate results, and sustainability over speed, we aim to leave behind a quiet but clear trace of our reasoning.
The first page of Twodeers Log contains no achievements or outcomes. Instead, it holds a simple commitment: to preserve the reasons behind our decisions and the standards guiding our judgment in a form that remains explainable over time. This is why we chose to record the brand’s story and history together.
